Piece of Serenity

I find it really infuriating that everyone at TS works so very hard to give us a great game to play and really asks so little of us beyond enjoying their creation and following some very simple rules and there are those who deliberately break the rules and do things that are against the best interest of the game because they feel entitled. I am specifically thinking of experienced players going to Gentle Island when they knew they should not be going. /rant

I'm guilty of alt creation. This is still beta. I love the game and want to test things. The solution is for us to be allowed to test gentle island (museum upgrade card?) or possibly even be able to reset our glitch back to stock... Yet another option is for TS to allow us to state our intentions and the fact that we already have a character, and are just wanting to see or test one specific thing. That way they could strike us from their metrics because everybody would be in the know. When we've tested the function we wanted to using the new character, we can just delete it. Another reason I created the new alt was to see/try the greeter stick. In my opinion we should have all been sent a greeter stick (even if it was set not to work) just to keep us on par with the new characters coming in and the items they have available to them... If it's too strange for us to all get the greeter sticks at the same time, then it would be nice if there was an in game encyclopedia or library type place that had every item available in the game that you could rent for a short time or even just try right there in the item library (then the item would vaporize out of your inventory) Trying everything is what glitch is about to me. Does anybody agree?

I'm not talking about people creating alts. I am talking about people who took their old accounts to Gentle Island by exploiting a way that was found to get there. The Greeter twig disappears when it is used. It is a way to get Greeters to people who need them not as an item to be had by everyone.

I hear you, Piece! I did read someone say "It would be cool if the older players could experience it as a quest" and I thought that was a nice idea. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, no big deal I've watched the video. For those of you who might have missed it, you can view it here - www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

I'm waiting for TS to feel like things have shaken down enough they'll allow us to try out the new tutorial on a quest. Hope, hope. :)

I genuinely don't understand what the problem with that is. I haven't gone, but I don't know that the people who alted up to go there did anything "wrong", per se. Besides, how is going to Gentle Island as an experienced player "against the best interest of the game"? Were they breaking stuff or something? Which rule did they break by going there? I'm not trying to jump on you or anything... I just don't understand what harm there was in it, I guess. Sorry!

I did not say anything about alts. Alts are new accounts and gentle island was coded for new players. But, taking established accounts there could cause issues as it was not written for them. I am surmising that they could have picked up issues by being there. As no doubt there are things that trigger certain events for a new player leaving the island. If they did pick up issues because they took an old account there then that caused extra work for the staff that was unnecessary and a pain in the ass to correct just because they decided that they were going to do whatever they wanted.

Actually, I thought existing players were asked not to create alts for a while as TS said that this interfered with their stats on the new tutorial. www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

Some people got in on their regular accounts, and did something which reset their energy tanks to 100. Oops!

I have been ITCHING for an alt account and I specifically held off because of the plea. But I do guess if we are going to break it, players might as well break it hard and break it now while we are in MoBeta.

That's what beta is for...not only to break things, but to find things that can be done that were never intended to happen. Otherwise, imho, they wouldn't need to invite people to test for them :)

Who said we shouldn't be going there? Are we not beta testers?

  1. M<3tra, obviously

www.glitch.com/terms "Cheating and Hacks: You agree not to:<clip> exploit errors in design, features which are not documented and/or bugs to gain access that would otherwise not be available" Having said that...Following and finding yourself some place cool...it'd be against the idea of "It's made of people!" beautifully articulated in the /guidlines It'd be even more against the spirit of Glitch not to share :) Also, I didn't take a Greeter 1st launch and met a player who didn't want a Greeter. I bought her twig dang it. So you're saying it's "wrong" for me to have done that b/c it is designed for new players? And Froot is right...with a smaller playerbase made of people who *love* the game it's easier to handle than when the game is open and ppl are looking for exploits simply b/c that's what they do every game.

Hey, I don't know you, but I'm going to have an opinion on your opinion! Do you remember Bubblegum? Bubblegum crashed the entire game, alone, because of a single character - that is, not a glitch player character, but one thing that can be entered into a field. I wouldn't think that Bubblegum's havoc was wreaked deliberately. But it was good for the game - because it was an error, it was found, and it was corrected. Whether or not Bubblegum reported it, is irrelevant. This game is in Beta, we're all obliged to test what we can, when we can, how we can. Getting back to GI with mature accounts isn't something that required "script insertion" or any external modification of game code. It's in Beta. Expect things to break, especially the rules.

I see the point about testing, but wouldn't the mature, responsible, beta tester report anything they found that could endanger the game? Surely in their heart of hearts they must realise that it is not right to mess around where they are not supposed to be. You can justify it all you like but I bet you would be whining if they broke glitch for days.
