A Valuable Tip Before You Unpack Your Moving Boxes
(Thanks to CodeChic for this tip; see also WalruZ's similar thread.)
If you pick up a moving box and have it in your inventory, then the inventory search functionality will search over items in your moving boxes. It is then easier to move all of a certain type of item out of the moving box and into an SDB, for example.
(Inventory search is accessible via the little magnifying glass icon in the bottom left of the viewport; or by pressing the "~/`" key; or by pressing shift+F)
Items in moving boxes will also be available for crafting as well, as long as the box is in your inventory.

- Good tip! Glad I've only opened 2 out of 5, and those two in an expanded back yard. It's a little tedious, but fun to organize the mess (geez, I sure had a lot of meat and booze--lol). I just completed a second story and having a blast!
- Also, if you have it in your inventory and have SDB's, you can click on the SDB, click deposit, and everything in your inventory will show up. Then you can choose what to deposit, whether in the moving box or in your regular inventory.
- I'm going to try this when I get in game but before I trigger some cataclysmic bug... has anyone done this with full bags in the moving box?

- WARNING - the bug that caused items to disappear when moving them into an SDB is back. They thought they had it fixed, but it just happened again.
- This tip was working for me and then I just stopped having access to my stuff even with the moving boxes in my inventory... Did you fix it and I'm just out of luck? It was nice while it lasted.

What a great tip. I actually liked sorting out all the stuff on my floor, but the novelty does wear off.
I love the moving boxes. I wish we could keep one. Hey, I've moved plenty of times and there's always a box or five that never gets unpacked. I'm going to try and unpack most of one using the SDBs and search tip and then leave something just so I can keep it in a corner somewhere. - Great tip, wish I had seen it before I exploded my first box, but it will help w/the other floor I haven't touched yet.
- Haha! That's funny! Spent the afternoon moving rock 50 at a time. Also helps to open the box in the room where you want the items to move into.

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing, then leaving the box in the attic. - Had I but known… that's several hours of my life I won't get back! :D
- I've found that you can also pick up your moving boxes full of supplies and craft furniture from those supplies without unpacking.
- I didnt want to know that now! sigh....

Zooo - contents of bigger bags inside moving boxes can be viewed (and then moved) using the inventory search.
If you know the name of your bags, you can also search on the name, click on it from the search list, and select drop to get just that bag out of the moving box.

I tried the Donate stuff search but that didn't work, but wooo when the crab asked for a tune... that list was enormous.
Sadly, inventory search no longer works for me. I know pretty much what's still in that box, but I can't get it out now without unpacking all of it....*sniff* I really want to be able to keep a moving box as a memento of this day. I suppose I still could but that's a whole lotta stuff to stay packed up forever. Things might start fermenting, mingling, congealing.. eventually I'm afraid I'd might need a Hazmat suit just to walk by it. - This is a great tip, should be sticky, bump!
